THE 2021 HARVEST
2021 will surely go down as one of the most difficult harvests in living memory. Throughout the season, every possible disaster befell us!
It started with frost, which struck our vineyards over twelve nights throughout April. Then the hail which, while highly localised, only mildly affected our vines. Mildew came next, on the back of heavy rain which fell until late August. This destroys leaves and grapes but doesn’t affect the quality of the surviving fruit.
It took all year before the sun made an appearance, but it finally poked its nose out from behind the clouds in September. It was such a relief to see it and enjoy good conditions for the harvest. And we thank God that this harvest was Covid-free!
The 2021 harvest was the Champagne region’s smallest since 1985! Like 1985, it promises to be a high-quality, fresh, and generous year in the glass. We’re looking forward to starting our blends, which look very promising indeed!
